7.5 million Ukrainian refugees have entered EU from Ukraine & Moldova since war started

About 7.5 million entries into the EU have been registered from Ukraine and Moldova, including almost 6.5 million Ukrainian citizens, according to the European Border and Coast Guard Agency (Frontex).

Through a statement issued on July 11, Frontex revealed that fewer Ukrainian citizens had entered the EU in the last week than have returned to their country, SchengenVisaInfo.com reports.

The number of people who returned to Ukraine between June 30 and July 6 was 265,793, while 252,246 Ukrainians entered the EU.

“Over recent weeks passenger traffic data indicates relative stability with the average number of entries and exits to the EU relatively similar. It is likely that circular movements make up for a great share of the flows,” the statement reads.

According to Frontex, the number of Ukrainians coming from Belarus and Russia is still stable, with a slight increase at the Russian border.

In addition, due to the ongoing war on the eastern frontline, Ukraine has the opportunity to create a way for the return of Ukrainians deported through the Baltic countries.

“High pressure on freight transit at the Romanian and Polish border crossing points is expected as the Ukrainian crop harvest is ongoing and efforts to empty storage capacities likely continue. Passenger flows are also expected to continue at a high level, also animated by the usually busy summer season,” the statement also noted.

Frontex has also emphasized that it continues to monitor refugee flows to facilitate border crossing and support evacuation corridors. As a result, 288 Frontex officers and staff have been deployed in countries neighbouring Ukraine to support national authorities with border control.

On June 28, the agency announced that the number of entries of Ukrainian citizens to the EU was over six million.

Meanwhile, between June 16 and June 22, some 262,606 more Ukrainian refugees entered the EU, while 248,697 had returned to their country.

The total number of Ukrainians who have left the EU for their country since February is 3.1 million. According to Frontex, in the last ten days of June, an average of 35,000 Ukrainians left EU member states for Ukraine and Moldova every day.

On June 17, the number of Ukrainian refugees stood at more than 5.7 million refugees who had fled to the countries of the EU.

At the same time, Frontex revealed that around 2.8 million Ukrainians had left the EU for their country during the same period.
