56 refugees rescued off Libyan coast

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) said that 56 refugeeswere saved by the Libyan coast guards on Friday of the Libyan coast.

The IOM said that "Fifty-six migrants were just returned to Libyan shore, among them 9 women and 2 children".

The saved refugees were transported to a detention centre in Sabratha city which falls around 70 km west of the capital Tripoli.

The IOM added that "IOM reiterates that the arbitrary detention of migrants must end. Alternative solutions that safeguard lives must be found".
